I contribute much of my running success to LWC, as this program has helped me to set challenging yet realistic goals, and given me the support that I needed to reach them. I had included running as part of my weekly exercise plan for over a year before signing up for my first challenge. It was sporadic because I wasn't really working towards anything, and although I was making progress with endurance, I wasn't ready to commit to any type of race out of fear that I wouldn't be successful.
At the beginning of my first challenge I was able to run at race speed for about 20 minutes. My goal was to train and compete for a 5 km goal, which I accomplished at the 6-week mark thanks to 5 solid training days per week, and the support of my teammates. I felt like I had more in me, so for my second challenge I decide to train to run 10 km. I wasn't sure I was going to be able to do it. I started regularly running 7 km distances, and my teammates convinced me that I had the endurance to run a full 10. Three days before the end of that LWC cycle I decided to push myself and give it a try and was able to accomplish my goal by logging a 10 km run. In my third consecutive cycle I wanted to run a 10 km race. I signed up for one at the end of the first week, not sure if I would be able to do it since the racecourse was hilly. One team member trained with me, another ran with me, and all encouraged me, and I DID IT and in pretty good time! Without LWC and this inspiring group of friends, I never would have made so much progress so quickly. I am working on a few other goals over the next 7 weeks, but the big one is out of the way, so it narrows my focus. I can't wait for the next race. I can now call myself a RUNNER.
