Last week Dianne and I tried out Level 1 of this Jillian Michaels 6 Week Six-Pack abs routine.  The DVD includes two 30-minute workouts plus warm -ups and cool downs.  You are supposed to start with Level 1 for three weeks and then advance to Level 2 when you are ready.  Jillian's approach does not include a bunch of boring sit-ups.  She leads you through two sets of a cardio circuit that tones your abs.

I thought this was a very good way to mix up your core exercise routine.  It was challenging, and I definitely "felt" it the next day.  I also liked that it wasn't just my stomach that was achy.  I was sore in my obliques and my back as well.  The second time we did it, I didn't notice that I was sore at all the next day.  I think I could have moved on to Level 2 right away.
