"I DID IT! 13.1 miles done and a HUGE goal checked off my list of things to do in my lifetime. I couldn't have accomplished it without the help of friends and family encouraging me and helping me stay motivated (not to mention healthy and fit enough) to keep going when giving up and dropping out seemed so much easier.
I felt strong and capable throughout the whole run - even and steady breathing and a consistent pace. I had a lot of people passing me, but I was able to pass people, too, and - my proudest moment - knowing I crossed the finish line having never stopped running.
I got a bit emotional around mile 7 - feeling overwhelmed with the adrenaline of the race, the thought of accomplishing something bigger than I had ever done before and also feeling grateful for a breeze when it was hot, music when I thought I would have none, beautiful trees in the canyon, a strong body that was capable of the race and the thought of seeing my family greet me at the finish line. I had to stop thinking all of those things, though, because running and crying is really hard and uncomfortable.
I don't think I'll ever try a full marathon - that would be crazy. BUT....I'm looking for a new challenge. Any ideas??"
